Cels from some episodes seem to hit the market more than cels from
others. For example, cels from episodes 98 & 99 of the original series seem to
turn up more than any other show. This page is to feature cels from episodes that
seem to be better represented than most.

The following cels are from episode #98.

Towards the end of the first series, Joe began to have violent
headaches. He started acting stranglely and even missed a mission. Here, Ken
ponders the absence of his friend. |

This is a 2-layer cel, but the layers don't quite match. Here, the
missing Joe finally turns up, hence the surprised faces!

This is one of Joe's attacks. The original background must
have been paired with a different cel, so someone substituted a background that makes the
cel look as though it was from a haunted-house episode...!
The cel below demonstrates my "same episode" theory. It
was purchased about a year after the upper cel - in a different part of Japan! Its
background (not pictured) also differs from the televised version.

In episode #98, and old woman befriends Joe. It's later
learned that her son is working for Galacter. Joe is about to teach the
fool a
lesson, when Ken stops him....
Over time, I found three cels from this shot. |

Here are another two cels from the same sequence. Again, one of
the cels was paired with a non-matching BG (more haunted-house action!). The other
cel came with the matching BG (and working door!), but the lines had faded quite
a bit...

The following cels are from episode #99.

In episode #99, Joe's mental condition continues to deteriorate.
The other members of the group finally become aware of his problems.
Here, he gets up after an attack. |

With the rest of the team in trouble, Joe heads to the control room
of the ship ( in order to fly to their rescue).
There was only one cel of Joe made, and it was "slid" into the
shot. This made it appear that the elevator was working...! |

Joe manages to get the Godphoenix airborne. Here are two cels from
that scene.

The cel w/door open to show lift. |
This is Joe, madly trying to control the ship.
In the show, the lift's door opens to reveal the other four team
members. (The door is actually a yellow painted cel.) It was scanned open to
show the lift's inner chamber.
Unfortunately, the cel of the others wasn't with this when it was found. |
